Someone said the adjective ‘poor’ is only an acronym meaning ‘Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly’. The story below only illustrates further this acronym.
A man was travelling along one of the express roads and got the call of nature to ease himself. He stopped by two fuel stations and was not allowed to use their toilets, he was really pressed by the time he got to the third one, so he begged the first person he met frantically, she refused blatantly, this man moved near the second person hoping he would be get help from him and truly the guy allowed him. The first lady got furious and reported the good Samaritan to the boss, I do not know if the boss scolded him or not, but I learnt that the traveler brought out his card, wrote his direct line on the reverse side and gave the young man who helped him saying something like this “anytime you feel like coming to the United Kingdom, do not hesitate to give me a ring”.
Did you gasp? Well I did too when I heard the story. For sure the people the man met and asked for help never knew he is a British citizen (though born a Nigerian), they also did not know that he is a successful immigration lawyer ( a solicitor practicing in England). Had it been they knew they would have treated him differently.
By the way, the lady at the third fuel station professed she was “fasting”. Most of us are just a bunch of Church/Mosque goers who do not follow the tenets of the religion we professed to be “practicing”. We are fond of praying and fasting without doing what we ought to do, somebody says this is abdication of duty, asking God to do what we should do.
John Maxwell said “ The relationships in our lives really do make or break us” I really agree with him, and like to add that we should therefore hone our relationship skills.
I plead with you, be courteous to people, show kindness, you never know who the next person sitting by you is, you do not know his level of influence neither does he know yours. I pray we will not miss opportunities. (There we go again… PRAY)
Remember, you begin to live when you begin to relate truly.
